How does a fingerprint on a cuvette affect the result in a spectrophotometer?? - 2 things: 1) the fingerprint is like a shadow over the solution inside the cuvette and thus can absorb some of the UV light, giving a higher reading. 2) the fingerprint isn't "flat" on the cuvette, it's got amino acids and fat like the other poster said, along with dust particles. This will deflect the UV light, so not enough light is shinning though the sample, hence, a lower absorption reading. Does less, same, or more light pass through the solution if there is a fingerprint on the cuvette?? I have already answered this just above - can be both more or less but never the same as withough fingerprint. what is the relationship between the absorbance result when there is a fingerprint on the cuvette and when there is no fingerprint on the cuvette? There isn't any sort of mathematical relationship between with or without prints, simply because the fingerprint can increase and/or decrease absorption (see above). It won't be a meaningful relationship. Hope that helps.
